Round 6 of the South West Cyclocross League heads to Escot Park, where riders take on a lapped course of roughly 2.5 to 3.5km over hill, dale and — very likely — plenty of mud. Cyclocross has been described as a steeplechase on modified road bikes, and it's a hugely popular winter discipline known for its exceptional atmosphere and for getting you fitter (and muddier) as the season goes on. The league is run by a small band of dedicated volunteers, and the friendly, supportive crowd at the tape is a big part of what makes a cross race worth turning up for.
